Good afternoon bloggers! We here at Revelations Studios have decided to end out our summer blogs by talking to you about the AI system! Over the next three weeks, including today, we will be discussing the three different tiers of that system, how it affects the player, and how they will work.

But before I get into all that fancy mumbo jumbo, let me first explain where we are currently with the AI. At this point, we have a mostly functional AI. At this moment, our biggest problem is with the enemies attack and seek. Sometimes, for a reason no one but top NASA scientists can figure out, the system goes rogue, and our enemies don’t attack (like all good enemies should) and simply stand still. I call it the Lazy Syndrome. The director says I’m taking it a little too personally. But I digress. Let’s get into the fun stuff!

Like I said, the finished AI system will be split into three tiers. The first Tier, or Tier 1, is being called the normal tier. I think it’s a totally boring name, and should be called the “Minding my own business!” Tier. Or the “I’m going to just eat these corpses over here!” Tier. Basically on this tier, the enemies will be in non-attack mode. They will be performing basic tasks, like eating bodies, patrolling areas, and searching for the enemies of the enemies! Droids can search for gassers, and gassers for droids, but they will not be actively searching for you! Which is good news, since you want to be able to get through as much of this game as possible without ever being detected. And as long as there is no detection, the enemies will stay in Tier 1 mode.

The enemies really don’t affect the player too much, outside of their obnoxious eating sounds. Because those things were loud! But otherwise, they will leave you alone. But should you be detected, they will spring into Tier 2! If they decide to get off their corpse break.

So that’s Tier 1. Lazy gassers and droids just moseying around waiting for you to slip up! Come back next week to find out what happens when you are detected.

Signing off,

Keri Irace, PR Manager
